Dems take over Congress...this is GOOD!! Let me explain.
My headline should grab the attention of those who really know me well. Escpecially those of you who have not had a discussion of a political nature with me in the past five years.
Reason number one that this is good. Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House. This is great on many, many reasons. First, she is such a hypocrite that it will be funny to watch her when she is at a real level of accountability. Second, we will get to see if she is an empty suit. Are there really any plans behind her years of assertions? Pelosi and those inside her circle have said that they have better ways of doing things, but have not revealed what those are.
Reason number two. Media bias will be further exposed. Some people still think it is subtle. I think it is not planned bias, but it is cultural. Once the "cheerleading" by certain members of the media is noticed by many, their days will be numbered. The trend started with network news getting the lowest ratings in history, this will continue. And it will lead to non-traditional news media getting a bigger piece of the pie. Talk radio has a nice piece of it now, bloggers have been getting a lot of attenion, podcasters are growing...more arenas will open and it will be at the expense of the traditional networks and cable/satellite news sources.
Reason number three. Taxes. Everyone will see a tax increase with the Democrats back in power. Let me rephrase that. Everyone except the Democrats in power will see a tax increase. They will make sure that the loopholes to avoid taxes are in place to keep Ted Kennedy, Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Howard Dean and others in power. Oh, and this is done with the blessing of the approval of the tradition Democrat power base (labor unions, teachers, minorities) paying the way. The good part of this is......there will be a push back from those traditional power base groups. They will see how they are HURT by the actions of those they supported.
Reason number four. Reform of the Republican Party. The Republican Party will realize that they have been controlled by the religious wrong for too long. They will discover that the average working American did not want them getting involved in the Terri Schiavo case. Wasting time on other "moral" causes is not what their lost base wanted. Focusing on reducing government, focusing on protecting out borders for the first time since the Wilson administration, focusing on the war on terror and focusing on not being so damned arrogant are really what the people want.
Now, I could be wrong about the Democratic Party. I doubt it, but it is possible. Maybe they have some good ideas that they are going to push forward. I will wait and see if that happens. But if the first move of the new Democrat Congress is to raise taxes, and they will say on the rich, you will know that they are empty suits as a group. The real rich don't pay taxes and never have. Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton and Howard Dean know this. Can't tax an income where there isn't one. How do you think THEY avoid paying taxes?
This may appear to be the death of the "Fair Tax" movement. I think this may galvanize the movement.
And if that happens, that makes what happened on Tuesday a very good thing.
And if I am wrong about the Democratic Party, and they actually have some good ideas, do not raise taxes, protect our nation from terrorists, secure our borders and the other things that actually matter to the American people, then what happened on Tuesday is a good thing.
I am not holding my breath.
