Getting Settled In - The Jefferson City adventure begins...

For those who have read my previous entries and are wondering why I have not written in a while, let me solve this mystery.

I am now in Jefferson City, Missouri.  The combination of wrapping up an old job, the holidays, and working to get a new job started have all led me to neglect this blog for a little while.  I will try to do better.

So, to get you up to date, I am the new morning show host on NewsTalk 1240 KLIK here in Jefferson City.  Started on the air back on January 2nd.  So far, so good. Not the best work that I have done in my life, but it is pretty good.  Getting a handle on how things run here in Jefferson City and in the state of Missouri.  And I have to run my own control board, use different automation software and new phone system.  So, it soon will be my best work.  It is getting better each and everyday.  Having another Program Director that is willing to work with me makes things go a lot more smoothly.  (As well as motivating me to do work hard on getting better each day as well.)

Like Tennessee, Medicaid is a big issue here and for similar reasons.  A number of people were dropped from the program because the state could not afford to keep them on it.  The situation is a little different since the program here is still what it was 40 years ago.

Personally, I miss my family.  Kathy and I made the decision to have me come in advance and get used to the area.  I will need to figure out where we should live, what schools and all of that other fun stuff when it comes to moving.  Kathy has to juggle all aspects of being a single parent to two elementary school boys for the next few months.  At least she will have help from my parents in the mean time.

Other than that, I like my new job and the people I work with and FOR.  That is a nice position to be in.  And I think that the future is very bright for me and the entire family here in Jefferson City.

Mark,

Thanks for the kind words. Hoping to make things go here...so far, so good. Keep in touch.

Hey Jay I missed you leaving Knoxville. That stinks why do people have to screw up a good thing? Well maybe its something you wanted. Anyway my wife and I actually lived in JC for about a year. The Ozarks are cool if you get a chance to visit. Good place to take the wife and kids. Also JC has a cool nature center. Its a nice place to go to gather your thoughts. Although it is surrounded by the city. An it is true what they say about the weather. Watch out for the Tornadoes. We found most everyone in JC to be nice. I wish you luck in the future and we will miss you in Knoxville. May God bless you and yours.

Kevin,

Leaving Knoxville was all about getting my career in the direction that I needed it to go. The simply fact was that I never set out to be a "traffic guy" so I did not want to be stuck in that role forever. No opportunities in Knoxville, so I had to go. And coming here has been a great move.

Thank you for your kind words. I hope this brings some more understanding as to why we made this decision.

Thanks Jay for clearing that up. I should have listened to your last broadcast before commenting. I fully understand. I hope you get what you want in life. Best of luck!
