11 April 2008 - It's bad, but check your emotions and focus on the task

OK, OK, OK....I am tired of hearing all the doom and gloom.  We need to sit back and check things.

First, the news media has done a major disservice to the American people.  A recent media analysis showed that news reports of an impending recession started back just months after the recovery of 2003.

There was no recession in 2004.

Nor in 2005.

Nor in 2006.

Nor in 2007, though by then, the feelings were pretty strong that we were headed that way.

Now in 2008, while, by definition, we are not in a recession, it sure feels like it.  But I remind you my stance on keeping words and their meanings firmly linked together.

So, I am critical of everyone who says we are in a recession.  By definition, it is NOT true.  Heading to one?  Probably.  Might be in one?  Most likely.  But by definition we would not really know until July.

That leads to the real question.  Why all the gloom and doom on the economy and who is benefitting from these actions?

Look in to that.  Keep that in check.  And keep your emotions around the ecomony in check.  By doing so, which I will openly admit is VERY, VERY hard to do, will help you be part of the solution and not part of the problem.

In his first inaugural address, Franklin Delano Roosevelt said, "let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

Fear mongering is done by those who have something to gain by building fear (and uncertainty and doubt...the F.U.D. factor).

Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.  Yes, I know that I am quoting from Yoda, but it is true.  The fears that were being built starting back in 2004 have led to the suffering of many.

Who gains from that suffering?  Find that answer and know who you do NOT want to listen to, know you do NOT want to empower and know who you DO want to be discredited so they cannot do it any more.

Note that this does NOT just apply to the economy.  Look at the changes following the 11 September 2001 attacks as well.

And if you don't look at those changes as well, then, of course, "the terrorists win."

The Royals dropped one to the Yankees last night, but they had already clinched the series.  What got me mad was that I tried to flip over to the game on TV to get score.....and Fox Sports Net Kansas City was blacked out.

This is NOT supposed to happen.  They are my regional sports network.  I called DirecTV twice.  They assured me that this was to comply with the rules of Major League Baseball.

I doubt this.

I have sent e-mails to FSN and to Vice President-Communications & Broadcasting of the Kansas City Royals to see what they can tell me.  I figure if FSN is advertising that they carry 140 games this season, they may want to know one of their providers is screwing things up...if they are.

I will let you know what I find out.
