As you may recall, back when the casino debate was underway back here in Jefferson City, I took on a group for their choice of the word "Integrity" in their name. And I pointed out how their use of that word held them to a standard that was a bit higher than other political groups. I read and posted a dictionary definition of the word for everyone to hear and read.
Yesterday, I was proven right AGAIN. And yes, I am grabbing ahold a dictionary definition.
According to Merriam-Webster's Dictionary, RECESSION is (as applies to the economy) "a period of reduced economic activity."
In the first quarter of 2008, the economy grew by 6/10th of a percent.
Add that to growth in the quarters before this last one, and we are NOT in a recession....BY DEFINITION.
Are we having some economic pain? Sure. But my point is that words have meaning. Integrity means what it means and Recession means what it means. We should not use these words when we mean something else.
Do we say Black when we mean White?
Do we say Good when we mean Bad?
Do we say No when we mean Yes? (Insert your own joke on this one.)
Alan Greenspan, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and John McCain, as well as most of the mainstream media, have ALL used the word Recession in an inaccurate fashion. Doing so is wrong. Doing so is inaccurate. Doing so is FEAR MONGERING!!
I think most everyone is feeling the pinch of increased energy and food prices. But, this is not a recession.
And I will not say, NOT yet. I will not add to the fear mongering. Too many others are willing to do so. And have been doing so.....since the recovery of 2003!!

Oh sure, the day was for other celebrations before. And it was grabbed by workers groups because Labor Day was not enough. Then the illegal immgrants jumped on it.

I will never recognize May Day. That's because when I was in elementary school they made us dance around "The May Pole"..with big ribbon streamers. We would weave in-and-out while skipping around the May Pole...making a beautiful design as the ribbons were weaved. I was never picked on the "A" team to dance.
May Day... I could'da been somebody.
