2 June 2008 - Apologize when you get caught...for getting caught

The new trend seems to be to apologize when you get caught.  Then, it is not required that you apologize for what you did wrong, but for getting caught at it.

The LATEST case of this is Father Michael Pfleger.  In the series of apologies that he has issued, he has not apologized for his anti-Hillary Clinton rant.  But what he apologized for was how what he said may have been taken out of context and how it may have offended people.

I guess that is more honest of an apology, but it should not take him off the hook.

Now, I will say this.  Often times when I word something strongly and express a sincere thought that might hurt some feelings, I try to apologize in ADVANCE that what I say may offend some people.  When I do this, it is not my intention to offend, but rather to express something strongly in order to grab attention for that topic or issue.

So, while it sounds like I may be giving Father Pfleger a hard time for his apology, that is exactly the opposite.  I think he is an idiot for what he did and how he did it, but at least he is sincere in his idiocy.

And for that, he doesn't need to apologize.

Is it wrong to apologize JUST for hurt feelings?  I don't think so.  If you backtrack from your words, were you sincere in the first place?

But he apologized for for getting caught more than the hurt feelings.

Maybe I just think it is fair to issue the warning shot before I start flapping my gums.  So, it could just be my approach to things.

---------------------

I did not comment on this issue in this blog on Friday.  I did on the air a little bit.  Who is hurt most by Pfleger's comments?

Not Barack Obama.

Not his opponent in the primary season.

Not his possible opponent in the general election, if he makes it there.

The person hurt most by this.

Scott McClellan

He had most of the attention of the media leading up to the latest pastor problems.  He still got some attention, but not nearly as much.

--------------------

Barack Obama finally quit his church.

Why now?

I thought he was clean once Reverend Wright retired.

Oops.

Apparently, his church has changed over the past twenty years.  Especially in recent weeks.

Once again, it is more than fair to question his judgement.

-------------------

Have you caught the campaign "rope-a-dope" that John McCain has pulled on Barack Obama in the last week?

John McCain pointed out that it had been longer that 780 days since Obama went to Iraq.  And how he could not know how effective the "surge" has been since hasn't seen it with his own two eyes NOR has he spoken with General David Petraeus about the advances made in Iraq.  The McCain went as far as to offer to go to Iraq with him.

So, Barack Obama is sort of painted in a corner.  What does he do?

First, state that he is not going to take McCain up on his offer.  Going with McCain would NOT help him.

Second, he later said that he may make a trip to Iraq, but not with McCain.  He was thinking about going anyway, according to his campaign.

Uh, huh.

So, either way, he "may" go to Iraq.  And McCain can make points by issuing statements regarding Obama's response to his call to go for a visit to Iraq.

Rope-A-Dope...I guess that is something John McCain learned when he boxed at the Naval Academy.

--------------------------

I hope this is not a direct connection.  But I noticed that the horrible 12 game losing streak of the Kansas City Royals ended the night after Barack Obama quit his church of twenty years.

Coincidence.   Nothing but coincidence.

Now, the Royals have a TWO GAME WINNING STREAK!!!  WOOO HOOO!!!    and they head in to the buzz saw known as the Chicago White Sox.....in Chicago......followed by a trip to the Bronx.....

June could be a tough month for the Blue.  Hopefully, not as tough as May.

------------------------

I missed this special on Fox News from Saturday night.  It is called "Porked: Earmarks for Profit" and it looks into three current or former members of Congress and how they steered taxpayer money into their pockets.  I do NOT know if and when it airs again.  But this link does give you some of the stories covered in the show

No matter how honorable the intent, if something is NOT worthy of being voted on, it is not worthy of being funded.  Political expediency is NOT a defense.  This is a practice that needs to end.

But neither Republicans nor Democrats want to get rid of this practice.

The word here is CORRUPTION!!!

---------------------

And finally, the number one movie this weekend was "Sexist in the City" edging out Dr. Jones by just $9.7 million.

The gender ratio nationally has been reported as 85/15 female to male.

Don't worry guys, "Kung Fu Panda" will knock it out of the top slot this upcoming weekend.

---------------------

And finally, today is the Marquis De Sade's birthday.  Don't beat yourself up over it.

Take it out on someone else.

----------------------

Have a great day and a better week!!
