1 August 2008 - Did Barack Obama really...? One year later, the collapse continues.

Quick answer to the question posed today is yes, he did play the race card.  However....it is NOT that easy.

Personally, I believe it was Barack Obama's appearance was what he was bringing up.  Yes, as a bi-racial man, he does look different than the 42 different men who have held our nation's highest office.  So, from that standpoint, he did play the race card.

But my view is a little bit different than most who have been looking at this.  It reminds me of something that happened 20 years ago.

Vice President George H.W. Bush was pointing out his grandchildren to someone.  It was overheard that he said "the little brown ones" and the media ran with it.

Did Mr. Bush intend to insult Latinos with the comments?  Of course not.  Ridiculous.  He was trying show who they were in a crowd of mainly white kids.

But, as the saying goes, you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube.

Same goes with Senator Obama.  He wants to separate himself from the heritage of white guys being President.  He went with race.  I do not think he intended to make this a racial issue.

But you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube.  The race card has been played.

He should have let the McCain side be the ones to step in it.

You can't be a post-racial candidate and play the card at the same time.

Another mistake made by Senator Obama and his campaign.  And another done in a very stupid, petty and ineffective way.

Don't give ammo to the enemy.

Today is the first anniversary of the I-35W bridge collapse in Minneapolis.  As a former resident of the Twin Cities, I was glued to the coverage of that horrific event.

For those who haven't heard, a newer, better, larger and safer bridge will open on Christmas Eve this year as a replacement.

But the core issue that was highlighted by the disaster that cost 13 people their lives has yet to be fully addressed.  Our nation's infrustructure is crumbling and no one seeking elected office seems to care.

The idiotic idea of universal health care gets a million times more attention because that is an issue that pulls at the heart strings of the ignorant.

Even Nancy Pelosi and her gang of fools want to muzzle me rather than address the problems that effect everyone else.

Two things need to be addressed in this nation and they need to be addressed NOW!!!!

One is the ENERGY problem.  It is a true trickle down problem that hits everyone in everyway.  Time for a Manhattan Plan for Energy is 35 years overdue.  WAKE UP AND TAKE THIS ON...IT ALREADY IS TOO LATE!!!!!  Our economy WILL head to a recession and possibly even DEPRESSION if this is continued to be ignored.

Second is the crumbling infrastructure.  Unlike health insurance, this IS a governmental responsibility.  Just like protecting our borders.  (Sorry, bad example.)

Eisenhower saw to it 52 years ago.  Oddly, 52 is in play again.  Because our roads, power grid and other key parts of our nation's infrastructure is collapsing like a deck of cards.

And Congress is doing nothing.  Still.

Time to reboot!

------------------

Now time for a little insight into the show.  Yesterday, Congressman Kenny Hulshof was scheduled to come on to talk about his run for the Governor's office.  Something happened and he did not appear.

I did say that I did not know what happened, so draw your own conclusions.  I did not INTEND anything by that, but apparently some read something into that comment.  (Yes, they are probably his supporters and that is expected.)

The bottomline is this, there was a mistake on the campaign's end and the Congressman was not at fault directly.  He will appear this morning at 7:10 to try and make up for it.  We carved out a special guest segment to make it happen.  It is important to get the questions asked and answered on the issues that face the state.

----------------

That is it.  The Kersting Family and 40 listeners of the show will be heading to Kauffman Stadium for tomorrow afternoon's game between the Royals and White Sox.  It is on TV (Fox Network).  If you watch, we will be on first base side past the dugout.  Look for us.

Have a Great Weekend.  Thank you to all for your birthday wishes.
