Last night was the series finale of “24″ and as I predicted, Jack Bauer lived.

So, what if your life was filmed for 24 hours? How would that look? Would it be as compelling?

——————

The following takes place between 6:00 and 7:00 am.

6:00:00….01…02….03…

(beep, beep, beep, beep) [slam]

Large man arises from his Select Comfort C4 Sleep Number bed (product placement is important in all shows) and walks across the hall. Knocks on the door and tells a teenager to take his morning medication. Returns to his bedroom, then to the bathroom.

Morning pee commences. [6:02:15....16.....17.....]

Morning pee wraps up [6:05:46....47.....48....]. Hands washed and he dresses in shorts and t-shirt before heading to the kitchen. Checks in with Kathleen who is working on breakfast for the boys, in this case, pancakes. Turns on the TV to catch the morning news. Walks back to Ben’s room to wake him up.

Ben heads to the bathroom before coming out to the kitchen. Jay (the previously mentioned large man) sits down on the couch and opens up his Hewlett-Packard laptop computer to check his e-mail, Facebook and more, while wathcing the morning news on his Magnavox 42″ LCD Television (again, product placement).

After deciding he does not want pancakes, Jay heads to the kitchen to start his hash browns.\

[6:15:56...57....58.....] commercial break begins.

[6:19:57....58....59...]

Jay wakes up Alex, the previously mentioned teenager. Alex heads to the bathroom before getting to the kitchen for breakfast. Kathleen eats her oatmeal with blueberries while sitting on the couch and checking her e-mail, Facebook, etc., on her Toshiba notebook computer. Kathleen also logs her food on Weight Watchers Online while watching the morning news.

Slight case of morning bickering from the kitchen where both Alex and Ben are eating their pancakes. Jay attacks the situation authoritatively and the bickering ends. Breakfast is finished, first by Ben, who heads off to take a shower, then by Alex, who flops on the floor in the Living Room in front of the TV waiting out his time until he gets to access the shower.

[6:32:30....31...32......33.....] Break.

[6:35:45......46.....47....] Small talk between Jay and Kathleen about something on the news. Plans for the day are discussed.

[6:41:00...01...02...] Kathleen heads back to the master bedroom and bathroom, preparing to shower.

As Ben finishes his shower, Jay prompts Alex to get off the floor and head back to get in the shower.

Music eminates from the master bath….a key indicator that Kathleen is in the shower. Exhaust fan is on, muffling “Mercy” by Duffy in the background.

Jay finishes breakfast. Ben is now dressed. Two showers are running…….

[6:51:57.....58.....59.....] Commercial break.

[6:55:00...01....02.....] Jay is now in the bathroom, Kathleen has just turned off the shower. Jay is at the sink shaving. Kathleen wants access to the sink as well, mainly to rinse her hands after applying her hair products. As Jay completes his shaving, but with remnants of the shaving gel still on his face, he attempts to kiss Kathleen. After some playful battling, Jay is denied and heads in to the shower.

Music is still playing….Dire Straits “Heavy Fuel”…and it seems rather appropriate.

[6:59:57...58...59.....7:00:00]

A week ago, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed a bill into law that required law officers to check the immigration status of those they suspected might not be citizens.

Many have applauded this action. Several have expressed anger at this.

Here is the truth.

President Barack Obama is wrong and is using a disinformation campaign to help build a base. Police CANNOT stop someone at random to enforce this law. When President Obama says otherwise, he is either ignorant of the facts (which I doubt) or he is working to build a base. So, I’ll stick with my initial statement.

He is not alone. And this disinformation campaign is also very dishonest. I’ll get to that in a bit.

Let me put this in simpler terms. This is like the current Missouri seat belt law. Similar to other states, in Missouri, you cannot be pulled over by a law officer while driving without a seat belt. There have been attempts to change that, but as of now, you can drive without wearing your seat belt. Once you are stopped for any other violation, they can add that ticket to the other violations.

Same with not having motor vehicle insurance. You can get away with it until you are caught in a violation.

Some would argue that police officers will be out looking for violators who fit a profile. Maybe, but I find that to be a very cynical view and it is also very disrespectful of our law enforcement community. There are good and bad people in EVERY line of work.

So, is Arizona right to pass this law? For Arizonans, yes they are…..but it doesn’t address the problem. But Arizona cannot really address the problem.

You see, Arizonans have been dealing with problems that many of us have not had to address. Phoenix has rate of kidnappings second only to Mexico City. Arizonans near the border and as far in-country as Phoenix have been dealing with cross-border break-ins for decades. For Arizonans, this law is a means to catch those who might be committing these violations OR to scare them from coming across the border in the first place.

The bigger problem is a very, very, very and don’t misunderstand me, very big problem. It is the porous nature of our national borders and the lack of attention that has been give to it since the Woodrow Wilson administration.

North, South, coast to coast, airport to airport, we do a piss-poor job of controlling our national borders. Remember that 16 or 17 of the 19 September 11th terrorists came here legally. The attempted “Millennium Bomber” came to the United States from the Canadian border.

So the lawmakers of Arizona did what they did. And they are well within their rights. Other states may follow their lead, and they will be within their rights.

But it does not solve the problem with the open borders.

Is this anti-immigrant? No. It IS anti-ILLEGAL immigrant. Key part of that is ILLEGAL. Something that the President doesn’t differentiate. He needs to. The other night, in Illinois or Iowa (one of those unimportant states that the Lame Stream Media likes to ignore and mix-up….sort of like Michigan and Minnesota…to them, they are all the same) he was asked about the contributions to our nation’s history by illegal immigrants. He answered the question, which is flawed in its basis. Immigration was all legal until the 1920’s….they did reject people due to illnesses and other related problems, but otherwise most everyone was welcome.

Today, the United States is open to more immigrants, legally, than any other nation on the planet. This is a good thing, this is something to be proud of and most importantly, this is something to be AWARE of! Too many people do not think this is the case.

But, I still think it is not enough.

The first thing that our NATION needs to do is to derail this idiotic concept of providing health insurance to everyone whether they want it or not and instead refocus on securing our borders from those wishing to do us harm.

Lock that down. Period. What is a nation without borders? Can we all first agree that we need to secure our borders to protect both our security AND our liberty inside our nation?

Next, I think we need to open up immigration. But, you put some restrictions, very minor restrictions, on immigrants. First, you must be healthy individual. Second, you have six months to find gainful employment…the exception being dependent minors and students who are paying their way OR are on scholarship. Third, you are not allowed to collect ANY entitlements aside from true emergency health care until you get your permanent resident visa. Fourth, if you are here for six months and do not have gainful employment, you can leave or enlist in the military.

It is simple. And that is the problem. If you fix this simple problem, you take away a political football from those in or seeking elected office.

There is the dishonesty. Barack Obama and company are “outraged” today over this because they see this as an opportunity to buy votes. I doubt when they are behind closed doors they think one second about the good people who have come here seeking a better life and who made the mistake of NOT doing this legally.

Think I am cynical? No more than those who are questioning the law enforcement officials in Arizona.

Arizona is right for wanting to take care of their citizens. Arizona is only wrong in thinking this will solve the problem….unless this lights a fire under the asses of those in Washington who CAN address this problem.

If it does, then Arizona is right on both counts.

Those who took the time to read, and hopefully comprehend, my last entry, thank you. You may understand where I am coming from now.

But in case you missed it, and this is very likely, I want to be clear.

If you have an opinion that has been formulated on inaccurate information or incomplete information, I am suggesting that you obtain more information, open your mind, apply that information and determine your new opinion.

But, very few people do that. And that is why I do not respect their opinions.

I do not respect the opinions of those who think that the United States government was behind the 9/11 attacks. [The ignorance of this zealots has been exposed repeatedly. Besides, I have no faith that there are enough competant people in government to have kept this secret.]

I do not respect the opinions of those who do not think that Barack Obama is a natural born citizen of this country. [I do not care WHERE he was born, he was born of an American mother. Just like John McCain. That is enough for me.]

That is why I do not respect the views of ANYONE who thinks that this bill, signed on Tuesday by President Obama, is good for anyone.

First, as I have illustrated AD NAUSEUM, this does NOT address the causes of our problems. In fact, it gives more power to the causes of the problems. A reasonable person should come to the conclusion that this will make things worse. But, as I am learning, these are not reasonable people.

Second, there are many parts of this bill, and for those of you who read it BEFORE it passed, you did not read the same bill, that are outside the scope of the Constitution. Remember, and many of you have forgotten or never learned this, the Constitution is a document FROM the people giving CONSENT to be Governed, not the other way around.

To that part, Jon Dougherty addressed that in his recent blog entry:

http://commonerbyjondougherty.blogspot.com/2010/03/death-knell-for-constitution.html

Jon is a member of the Missouri National Guard who is currently serving in Afghanistan. He is entitled to his words, and he is actually taking action to be sure that the rest of us can too.

Let me recap things here. You can have your opinion. You can have an opinion based on flawed information. I will point out your ignorance, as expressed by your opinion. I will not respect those flawed opinions. That may lead me to have less respect for you. [Not that you should care.]

But let me close with this thought. Incomplete and inaccurate information can lead to poor planning or poor decisions. Don’t think so? Well, many of those who hold opinions that I do not respect are the very same people who called a previous administration “liars” for that administrations opinions based on incomplete and inaccurate information.

Maybe you want to admit to being a complete hypocrite. I don’t, that is why I back things up with facts and detailed information.

And so far, no one has taken on the facts that I have presented. Only my opinion, even though it is on solid ground, unlike their own.

By the way, if you want to believe that giving “health insurance” to those who are unwilling to provide it to themselves is compassionate AND makes you a better person than me, how about backing it up. Buy some health insurance for those who don’t have it out or your own damned pockets and don’t FORCE me, under threat of my personal liberty, to do so. Then MAYBE you would be a better person. But until you do so, you remain a hypocrite.

If you are OK with that, fine. Again, I am not.
